P90X:MC2 And The Science Behind It From Steve Edwards Beachbody’s Fitness Guru

June 14th, 2011

Steve Edwards came out with a blog post today about P90X:MC2 and, in particular, the science behind the training sytem MC2 is set to present.

The training is set to based around Post Activation Potentiation, something Steve has blogged about before and something he is working with p3 on.  In particular:

At P3, a major route to improving performance is through the application of “complex training,” which involves combining high load strength movements with biomechanically similar plyometric/ballistic movements as a means of taking advantage of Post Activation Potentiation (PAP), a phenomenon that refers to enhancement of muscle function as a result of its contractile history. P3 has found that complex training is far superior in developing athletic power to either resistance training or plyometric training alone, and while there are other mechanisms involved in P3 complexes, the successful manipulation of PAP plays an important role.

The science of training is usually something not seen in home fitness workouts by the majority of what is out there, with the exception of Beachbody products (even RevAbs trainer Brett Hoebel has studied physiology enough to know how to put together his routine).

P90X:MC2 is set to release this fall, and I’m very much looking forward to it.  You can read the entire blog post here.
