Happy Presidents Day everyone! I had the day off of my day job, so I got to sleep in a bit and then press play on P90X Core Synergistics. Plus, I had time to do the bonus round! I wish I would have wore my heart rate monitor. I pushed hard. Only had a lot of issues on walking push-ups and one other move, but other than that did great. My shirt was DRENCHED except for the bottom 4 inches.
Nutrition today was pretty good.
Speaking of nutrition…
Coming from using the P90X nutrition guide for nearly a full year last year I’m finding more and more that I’m combining the theories behind the Abs Diet and fitting them into the P90X plan. It is actually working quite well for me. For instance, I’m looking at only doing a certain amount of starchy carbs. I’m aiming for so many veggies with each meal. I set a protein goal. Things like this, which are covered in the P90X portion plan.
Pre-workout snack: 1/2 banana on whole wheat bread, 1/2 tbsp PB
Breakfast – Shakeology
Snack #1 – Raisins
Lunch – McAlisters (salad and wrap)
Snack #2 – PB&J (whole wheat, natural PB, and all fruit preserves…and only 1 slice of bread)
Supper – Pork tenderloin, 1 cup whole grain noodles with some light Italian, steamed veggies
Snack #3 – Protein Shake

P90X today was the last Core Synergistic workout of the recovery week. I know this workout is NOTHING like what we used to do in football off season, but there is something about doing it that reminds me of some of the things we used to do (of course, I did not play football long, just wasn’t my game, although I enjoyed it and the experience).
I will admit that since the layoff from exercise in late 2010 I struggled with this routine.
But it will get better.
Today’s nutrition has been good. Nearly identical to yesterday, except I had chicken tonight (baked) instead of pork tenderloin. Very tasty and healthy dinner.

5:30am came early for my P90X day 23. I really, REALLY wanted to stay in bed. I was not feeling 100%, I was tired, and I wanted to sleep more. The last thing I wanted to do was to get up, press play, and get my butt kicked for 58 minutes or so.
But I know I have goals. And I was not going to get any closer to my goals if I did not get my tail out of bed, get hydrated, press play, raise the heart rate, engage the core, and break a good sweat. So I dragged myself out bed and I feel like a better person because of it. I proved to myself that my goals are more important than what my mind says I want.
Core Synergistics is not an easy workout either. I think of it as resistance cardio gutwork all combined into one DVD. My heart rate varies wildly on this, from not so high on certain moves to incredibly high on others. I think I clocked a 169 at one point.
Of course, not feeilng my best I had a harder time pushing as hard as I normally would. But I was more concerned with good form and not hurting myself than to kill myself and possibly get injured. I had enough of injuries last year!
Today’s nutrition was good. Not going to outline it today. Just know I started with Shakeology and I’m ending with something that I’m not sure what yet.

P90X day 86 was Core Synergistics. I still love this routine and will miss it. Heck, it was almost tempting to do the lean version of P90X just to have an excuse to do this routine more. I had huge improvement over the end of phase 2, which makes me believe I had great progress.
Day 90 is just around the corner!

P90x Day 51 was Core Synergistics, my favorite workout in the entire P90X collection.
If you are looking for a workout that will make you sweat and feel exhausted by the end (the good kind of exhausted), then Core Synergistics is for you. I had completely soaked my shirt.
Since I have adjusted back to the low carb/high protein diet, I attempted to bonk but would not let myself go there. I took a break, got the heart rate back in line, and picked back up.
Speaking of the diet, stepping down to Level 2 (phase 1) has been interesting. I think my body is adjusting well to it and now I believe that it was a mistake going to Level 3 at the start (my burn rate should be nowhere near 20%). So I think Level 2 is a good fit for me. I’m going to stick with it on Phase 1 for as long as I can, but probably go to Phase 2 the last couple of weeks.
I’m at a good spot right now in my inches lost overall. Most of the clothes I have are way too big. Polo’s for work, jeans, shorts, you name it, they are baggy now. I told my wife I was going to Old Navy this weekend just to try on clothes to see what fits!

P90X Core Synergistics is officially my favorite exercise routine.
It is intense. In fact, it was so intense that it took 3 meals (1000+ calories) just to feel like I had eaten anything during the day. I burned a LOT that morning, pushed hard, and was officially exhausted.
I took a double shot of my recover drink (16 oz), a protein shake (around 500 calories), and a snack (200 calories) and into my lunch before I felt energetic again.
But what a fun, full body workout.
Tomorrow is day 27, Yoga X, and then weigh and measurement day!

P90X X Stretch is the longest single stretching series I have evern had.
And wow, was I tight during it!
My flexibility has already improved, so I used this session to really push myself in flexibility without crossing any thresholds of pain. My goal is to be able to get my hands close to flat on the ground when I do hammy stretches.
Its getting closer and closer to measure/weigh check-in day, but I’m confident I’ll be pleased. Several people have noticed (which is crazy, its only been three and a half weeks!).
Tomorrow I tackle Core Synergistics again and I’m looking forward to it!

P90X Day 23 – Core Synergistics. What a fun workout! Exhausting (very), but fun. I hate that this was my first time to do it as I was trying to feel my way through the exercises and learn them. Fortunately I get a second shot at this later in the week!
This appears to be a very good overall exercise. My heart rate was around 75-80% during most of it, my core was getting worked, and it tired me out.
Its late for me, and I’m tired, so not much else to write tonight. Hopefully I’ll have more to say tomorrow (Kenpo X).
