Insanity Day 47 – Max Cardio Conditioning, Cardio Abs

May 19th, 2011

Doubles day with Insanity – Max Cardio Conditioning and Cardio Abs.  I still have room for improvement with MCC, and Cardio Abs was pretty exhausting after it.

Nutrition was great….got Shakeology back in today, so I had one for supper (very early on).  Was so glad to get some in my system and gave me tons of energy for my kid’s softball game tonight.

Tomorrow I’m not sure what routine I’m going to do but watching them now to decide.

Not much else to write tonight, but sure I’ll have plenty to write about tomorrow.

Insanity Days 13 and 15 – Pure Cardio, Cardio Abs, And 2nd Fit Test

April 17th, 2011

So after a long, long weekend, I’m back and blogging and getting everyone caught up on my Insanity action.

Friday – Insanity day 15.  The first “double” of the month.  Pure Cardio kicked my butt, as normal, but I was able to make it a bit further into the routine.  I made it until mid-way through the L2 drills before having to take my first “break.”  Pleased with progress, but want to make it 1-2 moves further in.

Cardio Abs – I don’t remember this routine burning so badly.  It did though.  I guess I was doing it more correctly this time through.

Today was 2nd fit test.  Honestly, I expected horrendous numbers.  I had 2 hours of sleep Friday night, and while I slept good last night, my body was still playing catch up.

But, I improved across the board in a major way.   Here are my numbers (original numbers in parenthesis):

Switch Kicks: 69 (64) – two kicks = 1 rep
Power Jacks: 69 (50)
Power Knees: 106 (93)
Power Jumps: 48 (32)
Globe Jumps: 11 (6)
Suicide Jumps: 21 (12)
Push-up Jacks: 38 (33)
LP Obliques: 67 (41)

I thought adding 5 globe jumps was huge.  And adding 9 suicide jumps after that took some deep digging.  Can’t wait for fit test 3 in 3 weeks!

Insanity Day 22 – Pure Cardio And Cardio Abs

February 10th, 2011

Today was Insanity Day 22 – Pure Cardio and Cardio Abs.  These doubles days are no joke.  Pure Cardio is a challenge in itself.  After the busy weekend I had, I could tell I was still a bit tired from it all.  Still pushed as hard as I could and did feel a bit better today in how I was able to push.

My goal for today was closely hit.  My goal was 2200 – 2400 calories.  According to what I calculated, from the meals I had 2200 and between 100 – 200 from my recovery drink.  So I’m closer to the zone I want to be in.  I felt less hungry between meals, but felt perfectly hungry when it came time to eat.  I figure in the next 2-3 days my body will catch up and will crave food again.  I have a feeling by the time all is said and done I’ll be getting close to 2,800 calories.

And I think not eating enough slowed some of my progress.  I’m close to an ideal weight at 188 (last good measurement).  My goal is 170-175 at the end, so it’s time to get my nutrition in order and push harder.

Insanity Day 58 – Max Cardio Conditioning And Insanity Cardio Abs

June 15th, 2010

Today was Insanity Max Cardio Conditioning and Cardio Abs.  Again, the fatigue of this month is quite frankly kicking my butt!  My warm-up was very sketchy today.  I had a hard time getting it going this morning and, even worse, keeping it going.

By the time Cardio Abs came around I was finally warmed up and exhausted all at the same time.  Shaun T and those jumps were really hurting me.   I had to be careful as my form was starting to get very sketchy, particularly not landing softly enough and jarring my joints.

Over 800 calories later, which wasn’t a lot for this combination of workouts, and I was ready for a recovery drink or two!

I looked at the the schedule this week for Insanity, and it’s brutal:

Plyo
Max Cardio/Cardio Abs
Circuit
Core Cardio and Balance
Plyo
Max Cardio/Cardio Abs
Fit Test

I thought I could adjust the schedule and do fit test separate, and I’m not brave enough to do it on Saturday with everything else.  So I guess I’ll do it on Sunday as planned and not have a full rest day for P90X.  The other thought is do it later Saturday, after I recover a bit, get a few meals in me, and can press play again.

Insanity Day 52 – Max Cardio Conditioning And Cardio Abs (And The Scale Is A Fickle Device)

June 9th, 2010

Today was day 52 of Insanity – Max Cardio Conditioning and Cardio Abs.

Again, I woke up feeling a bit physically exhausted.  It took me a bit to get into things and, even then, felt like I needed to take more breaks than normal.  Part of it may be catching up on rest from the weekend still, and some of it may be changing my diet back to a P90x style diet (less starchy carbs).

But between the two routines, I burned well over 800 calories in just over an hour, so not a bad workout.  I’ll be glad when I can get a bit more rest (Sunday is coming!) and can push harder.

For those wondering why I say to never pay attention to the scale, consider this…

My weight in the last week has gone from 184.4 to 188.0 on the scale.

Now…for me to do that and have gained true weight, that means I either put on some major muscle in the last few days OR I consumed 9,000 more calories than I’ve burned in the same period of time.

Neither happened.

Yesterday, the scale read 188.0.  Today, it  read 185.4.  Did that mean that I dropped over 2.5 pounds in the last 24 hours?

Of course not!  What it does mean is my body has flushed more sodium or other toxins through a massive intake of water I have done in the last 24 hours.  Tomorrow I may weigh even less…who knows.  But the bottom line is, you cannot and should not trust the scale for short term results.  It’s good for measuring sodium intake (i.e. to gauge whether you took in too much the day before/day of) but that is about it.

So next time you get in the scale, don’t be discouraged if it had an upward tick.  The scale is fickle and is not reliable.

Insanity Day 17 – Pure Cardio / Cardio Abs

May 5th, 2010

Insanity Pure Cardio and Insanity Cardio Abs combined is one heck of a workout!

Pure Cardio is bad enough…I was able to push harder today throughout the routine, although I still have  to take breaks.  I think the extra calories really helped.  Cardio Abs just burns…and burns bad!

I burned just under 800 calories between Pure Cardio and Cardio Abs combined, so not a bad little routine.
