Today was day 52 of Insanity – Max Cardio Conditioning and Cardio Abs.
Again, I woke up feeling a bit physically exhausted. It took me a bit to get into things and, even then, felt like I needed to take more breaks than normal. Part of it may be catching up on rest from the weekend still, and some of it may be changing my diet back to a P90x style diet (less starchy carbs).
But between the two routines, I burned well over 800 calories in just over an hour, so not a bad workout. I’ll be glad when I can get a bit more rest (Sunday is coming!) and can push harder.
For those wondering why I say to never pay attention to the scale, consider this…
My weight in the last week has gone from 184.4 to 188.0 on the scale.
Now…for me to do that and have gained true weight, that means I either put on some major muscle in the last few days OR I consumed 9,000 more calories than I’ve burned in the same period of time.
Neither happened.
Yesterday, the scale read 188.0. Today, it read 185.4. Did that mean that I dropped over 2.5 pounds in the last 24 hours?
Of course not! What it does mean is my body has flushed more sodium or other toxins through a massive intake of water I have done in the last 24 hours. Tomorrow I may weigh even less…who knows. But the bottom line is, you cannot and should not trust the scale for short term results. It’s good for measuring sodium intake (i.e. to gauge whether you took in too much the day before/day of) but that is about it.
So next time you get in the scale, don’t be discouraged if it had an upward tick. The scale is fickle and is not reliable.
