More Insanity Catch-up Posting

May 23rd, 2011

So I unplugged for a few days and need to get everyone caught up on how Insanity is going.

Friday I did Max Intervals Sports Training for the first time.  I was very concerned with form on some of these moves, so I took some of them very carefully.  I did manage to burn over 700 calories, so not a bad workout.

Sunday was Fit Test and Max Interval Circuit.  Grueling.  Fit Test was probably one of the worst times I’ve ever done it.  MIC was exhausting, from start to finish.  I was wiped.  Still manage to burn 1200 calories between the two, including a short break between them to get something to drink.

Today was Max Interval Plyo.  Still feeling it from yesterday.  Was very tired.  Looking forward to a good night’s sleep tonight and hopefully recover a bit.

I’m still sticking with my diet plan for now of low carbs in the evenings, no dairy, and tapering my meals.  It seems to be working for me.

Insanity Day 36 – Fit Test AND Max Interval Circuit

May 8th, 2011

So I got sick of writing about the same routine over, and over, and over again….so, I just quit writing for a few days, took some time with my family instead, and now it’s back to business.   Hope you all didn’t miss me too much!

Today began the hard month:  Month 2 of Insanity is anything BUT easy.

When it starts out with the Fit Test and THEN throws you into a 59 minute workout, you know you are in trouble.  And that’s what today did.

Fit test results are as follows:

Switch Kicks: 64-69-84 +20
Power Jacks: 50-69-70 +20
Power Knees: 93-106-118 +25
Power Jumps: 32-48-50 +18
Globe Jumps: 6-11-12 +6
Suicide Jumps: 12-21-20 +8 (down 1 from last time though)
PU Jacks: 33-38-39 +6
LP Obliques: 41-67-74 +33

Suicide jumps were not good.  I never felt like I got into a rhythm with those at all.  It was probably because I was gasping for air (didn’t eat well at all yesterday, combined with a big push…and you get a lot of exhaustion).

So after the test, I took a few minutes to fix a recovery drink, take about half of it (leaving the other half for the workout), and then jumped into Max Interval Circuit.  I honestly forgot how hard, yet fun, this routine is.  59 minutes of interval training is brutal, but a good burn.

1.5 hours and 1220 calories later, I was burned out!

To make things interesting for tomorrow, I’m under my calorie goal…so will be interesting to see how I feel in the morning.  Tomorrow begins my first full day of adjusting my meals to be more like the Asylum meal plan (with just more calories throughout the day).  We’ll see how it goes for a week, remeasure, and then decide from there if I need to increase calories or not.

Insanity Day 1 – The Fit Test

April 3rd, 2011

So today starts Insanity (my wife would argue that any day around our house is Insanity….but I digress).  I really think it takes a person who really is willing to do what it takes for a change to do this program.  ANYONE can do it, if they want, but this takes workouts to a new extreme.

Today was the Fit Test.  It is 25 minutes with only 8 real exercises plus a mild warm-up.  25 minutes, 300 calories, lots of sweat, huffing, puffing, etc, later, and here are my first fit test results:

Switch Kicks:  64
Power Jacks:  50
Power Knees:  93
Power Jumps:  32
Globe Jumps:  6
Suicide Jumps:  12
Push-up Jacks:  33
Low Plank Oblique:  41

Around the globe jumps I felt completely drained.  Not sure what that was about, but felt like I had moved into a level of exhaustion I have not felt in a while.  A very odd place to be.  But luckily I caught a second wind with the push-ups jacks.

So my goal here with Insanity is the following:

1.  I don’t care about losing any more weight.  I weigh under 170.  I do want to lose fat though, so I have a balance to work on.

2.  Goal is 2400-2500 calories/day to start.

3.  Goal is to go from the 14.78% body fat I’m at now to well under 12%, preferably aiming at 10% here.

4.  Survive!

I expect to see several of my fit test numbers to be much higher in the coming weeks.  This program saw me make great strides with my cardio conditioning last year when I did it, and I expect nothing less this year (only starting at around 15 pounds lighter).

If you are starting Insanity this week, be sure to join me on my Insanity team on the Team Beachbody Message boards:

Insanity Day 36 – Fit Test And Max Interval Circuit

May 24th, 2010

Today was Insanity Day 36 – Fit Test and Max Interval Circuit.  Combining these two things is a killer workout!  85 minutes of nothing but pure sweat and pain…just kidding about the pain part.

Right calf did start bothering me during the fit test, but then didn’t really bother me the rest of the routines.

Here are my fit test results (with previous results in parenthesis):

Switch Kicks – 67 (52/60)
Power Jacks – 54 (42/52)
Power Knees – 87 (63/77)
Power Jumps – 29 (18/24)
Globe Jumps – 11 (7/9)
Suicide Jumps – 16 (11/16)
Push-up Jacks – 37 (26/36)
Low Plank Oblique – 56 (31/43)

Everything improved except suicide jumps.  I was a bit winded when I was doing these, so I slowed down quite a bit.

Max Interval Circuit is going to take a lot of getting used to.  The routine is tougher full body as opposed to just tough cardio.  It’s a heck of a workout, and a lot of fun, just very tiring.  I’m going to have to work on digging deeper next time to really push through this one.

I increased my calories to 2,700 today.  After seeing what I’ll be burning, I think I’ll need every bit of that just to continue to lose fat.

Insanity Week 2 And Day 15 Fit Test Update

May 3rd, 2010

Enjoy the video above, but here is a quick update.

Insanity Day 15 was the Fit Test for me.  I had good improvement on most, and only a few things that I did not make major improvement on.  This is a very hard fit test…only 25 minutes, but it pushes you like a mini workout.

Here are my numbers from this fit test, with previous results in parenthesis:

Switch Kicks – 60 (52)
Power Jacks – 52 (42)
Power Knees – 77 (63)
Power Jumps – 24 (18)
Globe Jumps – 9 (7)
Suicide Jumps – 16 (11)
Push-up Jacks – 36 (26)
Low Plank Oblique – 43 (15)

So minus Globe Jumps a very good improvement on everything.  I was pleased with the results.  I did not feel well when I woke up this morning so that may have hindered my performance a bit.  But again, pleased.

I’m looking forward to the rest of the week!  Insanity is tough, but it is so much fun.  I cannot wait to see my 60 day results.

Insanity Day 1 – Fit Test

April 19th, 2010

Wow…Insanity Day 1 was, well, pretty insane.  And it was only the fit test!  This is a rough 25 minute test of what you can do, and I really don’t know how to interpret what I did.

Here were my results, though:

Switch Kicks – 52
Power Jacks – 42
Power Knees – 63
Power Jumps – 18
Globe Jumps – 7
Suicide Jumps – 11
Push-up Jacks – 26
Low Plank Oblique – 15

Tomorrow is when the fun really starts.  Check back to see how sore I am and how I think I did!
