P90X Day 87 + The Abs Diet – Kenpo X

March 29th, 2011

Going to keep this brief, because I’m about to also write a detailed post on the Shakeology 3 day cleanse.  Today was Kenpo X.  I overslept.  I pushed hard, but my heart rate never caught up with my effort (or my effort was greater in my mind than it was through my body).  Still burned a good amount of calories.

Nutrition was good until supper.  Rainy, cold, dreary weather on a day where I’m brain fried and still have lot to do USUALLY equals a weakness to want to eat out.  And that is what happened.  Didn’t really consume too many calories, but more worried about sodium content.

P90X Days 83 & 85 + The Abs Diet – Kenpo X, FOY Yoga

March 27th, 2011

Playing some catch-up here.  Had a fun weekend spending time talking to my friends about fitness, life, and everything else, and just did not get a chance to post.

On Friday was Kenpo X.  Good, solid run through it.  Just under 600 calories burned on that one.  Nutrition was solid until supper lol.

Today was FOY Yoga.  I was a bit tired.  I almost didn’t feel well.  I was REALLY not motivated.  Dang, I was glad I did though.  I instantly felt better after doing it.  And I’ve felt better all day.  My nutrition today has sucked, though, and I won’t even pretend like I was close to where I needed to be on what I ate.

So I won’t review what I ate.

On Wednesday – Friday of this week, I’m doing a Shakeolgoy 3 day cleanse inside of this recovery week.  I’ll be posting more info (again) about the cleanse, it’s objectives, etc.

P90X Day 76 + The Abs Diet – Kenpo X

March 19th, 2011

I’m writing this a day late, because I had a date night with my wife last night (and was not going to take the time to blog when I’m spending time with her), but yesterday’s P90X was Kenpo X.

Nutrition?  Not great.

So a week in review:  Workouts went great, nutrition was not so good.  I have two weeks of P90X left, so my focus has got to be solid nutrition moreso than pushing hard on the workouts.  I feel like if I can spend the next 2 weeks focusing on my nutritional goals, I may not hit my goal at this point with this P90X round but I’ll be a lot closer.

Why am I ranting about this?

Well, my weight is still in an okay range, but a spot check of body fat measurement shows a slight increase.  Not sure whether it was just a wrong measurement or what, but I was not pleased with the result.  I’m better than that, and I can focus more on than what I have.

Granted I have a lot of time to work towards my ultimate goal, I’ve got to be more focused.  Too many life distractions this week and not enough attention to detail.

So, it’s time to regroup and get after it again.

P90X Day 48 + The Abs Diet – Kenpo X

February 19th, 2011

Writing this a day late as last night I went on a date night with my wife.  Yesterday was P90X Kenpo X.  Not a great push for me for some reason but still burned just under 600 calories.  I sweat like a madman, just my heart rate never wanted to get real high.

Nutrition was good until the date with my wife.  We tried out a somewhat new place here in town with really good salads and wood fired pizzas.

Tomorrow starts recovery week.  I hope to wake up early enough to do all of Yoga X instead of Fountain Of Youth, but we’ll see how that works out.

P90X Day 41 + The Abs Diet – Kenpo X Plus Week 6 Results

February 12th, 2011

I’m a day behind in blogging, so today I’m reflecting back on P90X day 41 – Kenpo X.  Not much to really say about it other than it was a better than normal day doing the routine.

Nutrition yesterday was pretty good.  We ate out last night and I managed to eat mainly healthy.

But, here’s the great news:

This morning I woke up and took a body fat measurement.  In the 2 weeks into phase 2, I have lost .75″ off my waistline and over 2% body fat!  It looks like my body fat loss is catching up with the weigh loss finally.

P90X Day 27 + The Abs Diet – Kenpo X

February 5th, 2011

I’m actually a day behind updating my P90X progress.  Day 27 was Kenpo X.  This went a lot better this time and I was able to push my heart rate up more during the workout.  There are still sections of it where my heart rate is not as high, but I’m working on it.  Not real sure how to get more out of the blocks section, but I’ll figure it out.

Nutrition was good.  I mixed things up a bit and it worked out well.

Breakfast – 2 eggs scrambled, oatmeal with honey and cinamon
Snack #1 – Almonds 1oz
Lunch – Shakeology
Snack #2 – Raisins
Supper – Chicken and onion cooked in olive oil, half over lettuce, half over whole wheat noodles
Snack #3 – Salsa and some chips (worst thing today)

Note:  When I woke up this morning, I looked and felt thinner.  Maybe my eyes.  Maybe the first time I noticed.  But this phase is really kicking in, and I expect to see good results by the end.

P90X Day24 + The Abs Diet – Kenpo X

January 25th, 2011

Today was another day where it was a challenge getting things going with my P90X workout today. I did get more sleep last night, but I was just lethargic getting going.

Even worse is that I really struggled getting my heart rate up. I wanted to blame my HRM but truth is, I was just not pushing at 100%.

Nutrition today is good so far. I am actually blogging this on my iPhone after doing a presentation, and for once, my supper is not planned. I may end up with a second Shakeology (which might not be bad since sickness is trying to invade my house).

I hope to pick up a salad or salad/wrap combo.

P90X Day 6 Plus The Abs Diet – Kenpo X

January 7th, 2011

P90X Day 6 was Kenpo X.  This is usually one of my least favorite workout.  I feel like I never got a really good “burn” out of it, so to speak.  Today proved me wrong!  Heart rate stayed in the 150′s, had some spikes into the 160′s, and gave me a 650 calorie burn through the workout.  My goal with this over the next many weeks is to push myself during this workout and force my cardio to improve during it.

Nutrition for the day:

Breakfast – Shakeology with 1 cup FF milk, 1 banana, and 1T natural PB.

Snack – Protein shake (1 cup FF milk, 1 scoop powder)

Lunch – My usual Turkey sandwich and orange

Snack – 1 oz almonds

Supper – On the road, so I had to eat Fast Food.  Made the best choice posible:  McDonald’s Southwest Chicken Salad with Grilled Chicken.  With the dressing it was only around 460 calories, but I did not use all of the dressing, so was a bit below that.

Snack – BIG CHEAT Alert!  We took our older two girls on this trip with us, so we treated them to a  late dessert.  Bad parenting, maybe, but this is a rare thing we do.  We had a brownie topped with ice cream and whipped cream.  I ate a reasonable amount, but the sugars made me sick!  Note to self:  Avoid that.  Not worht the nauseau.

P90X End Of Week 11 Catchup

April 5th, 2010

The end of last week got really busy so I did not have a chance to write much on this blog about how my P90X workouts were going.  So here is a quick post recapping those days.

Last Thursday was Yoga X.  This was the first workout I’ve been able to complete (minus the 17 minutes I usually cut out) since having the flu.   It was tough still at times, particularly in the beginning.  Legs were shaking and it took all I had to hold poses.

Friday was Legs and Back, Ab Ripper X.  I STRUGGLED this day.  Energy was lower than Thursday for some reason (got to bed a bit later, which probably had some to do with it), and made this workout very, very tough.  I fought through it and had to dig a bit for the strength in ABX, but did it pretty well.

Saturday, I decided to mix things up a bit.   Instead of doing Kenpo X, I did Cardio X.  I personally like Cardio X a lot more then Kenpo.

It’s shorter.

It keeps my heart rate up consistently.

It’s shorter.

Its more variety.

Did I mention that it’s shorter?

I don’t really pay a lot of attention to length of the cardio routines, but honestly, there are parts of Kenpo X that simply do not do it for me.  But all of Cardio X works me, including the first bit of Yoga.  My HR stayed in the 150′s for everything outside of Yoga (which still kept it in the 140′s, as I was pushing hard), but was not uncommon to go from 160 – 170 either.  43 minutes burned over 700 calories.

I’ll post a bit later about today’s Chest, Shoulders, and Triceps workout.

P90X Day 24 – Kenpo X (Recovery Week)

January 28th, 2010

P90X Day 24 was Kenpo X. Not much to write here, just a good 800+ calorie burn.

One thing I’m learning about this workout: I really need to get a plyo mat or something for it. The twisting motion on a high friction surface (i.e. my carpet) makes my knees ache after the workout, almost like I am getting too much pressure in the pivot.

Down to 204.2 from the prednisone wearing off. Also took a body fat measurement and was at 25.25% by 3 point caliper reading taken by my wife. I’ll take a more accurate measurement on Sunday.
