P90X Day 82 + The Abs Diet – Ab Ripper X, Legs And Back

March 24th, 2011

Wow…I cannot believe I just completed my last Legs and Back workout for at least 3 months.  So, knowing this was about it, I pushed.  And I pushed.  And 12.5 hours later, I can still feel it in my hammies and my glutes.

That’s strength, that’s balance, that’s coordination, that’s P90X!

Nutrition was good today.  I did some slight re-arranging of my protein shake and took it in the afternoon instead of just before bed.  I had a bad feeling that taking a protein shake that late was not helping (never could give it enough time before I went to sleep, so afraid the calories were not getting used right).

Pre-workout:  banana
Post-workout:  R&R drink
Breakfast:  Shakeology
Snack:  10 Sun Chips, 4oz cottage cheese
Lunch:  Chicken stir fry (brown rice)
Snack:  1oz cashews
Snack:  Protein Shake
Supper:  Spaghetti using Barilla Plus noodles (4g fiber, 10g protein)

P90X Day 61 + The Abs Diet – Ab Ripper X, Legs And Back

March 3rd, 2011

P90X Legs and Back day…always brutal.  Always.  I never really can pinpoint why the legs workout is so tough for me, but it is.  I did well today.  I even increased my reps on full pull-ups.  But the legs portion?  Kicked my tail.  12 hours later and I can still feel the exhaustion in my legs.

I’m learning that sleep is a valuable commodity in my house and one I do not have a lot of.  Having 3 kids means you alternate who is sick during the winter/early spring allergy season.  So far, we’ve been fortunate to avoid any major illnesses.  But, the last week just seems like someone is always waking up with something.  Usually the wife lets me sleep but I have been the brave one getting up with our youngest.  Combine that with one other having a sinus infection, storms, and everything else, and I have not had a single uninterrupted night of sleep in nearly 2 weeks.

Ahh, the joys of parenting.  Of that tangent now….

Nutrition was good today.  I’m debating whether I’m taking the right amount of calories or if I should decrease slightly (talking 100-200 calories max).  I am going to measure/weight in 2 weeks to see if progress is being made.  If not, I’ll adjust for the last 3 weeks of P90X.

P90X Day 33 + The Abs Diet – Ab Ripper X, Legs And Back

February 3rd, 2011

Today was a bit funny with my P90X.

I’m doing Ab Ripper in the office/exercise room.  And all of the sudden, I hear…

“Play that funky music, white boy….”

It was my wife April starting Turbo Fire!  I knew she was starting today, but that first bit of music really got my attention and had me chuckling a bit!  But really, on to how things were today…

Biggest problem with Ab Ripper today was just what I described above:  Distraction.  I let my mind wander a bit too much.  I was thinking about business stuff.  I was wondering what April’s workout was like.  I just got sidetracked mentally a bit at times and would have to pull myself back in.  And when I did, I went hard, and I burned.

Legs and Back was an adventure.  For most of it, I increased what I did over week 4.  Balance lunges kick my butt…and, of course, they are the first thing out of the gate.  It’s not that I have trouble with lunges.  No, I have trouble with balance.  Part of which is due to a chair with some cushion, and part of it because I have no ability to balance on my right leg.  Odd, but true.

Pull-ups felt good today.  I actually did quite a few full pull-ups, quite a few pulses, and then finished up using chair assist.  I’m getting back to where I was before the injury and that feels good.

Nutrition was good today.  I decided to eat a bit more at supper (chili still).  Not a good idea.  Haven’t felt right since doing it.  Won’t make that mistake again.

Breakfast – Shakeology
Snack #1 – 1.5 oz Raisins
Lunch – Turkey Sandwhich, V8, apple
Snack #2 – Almonds
Snack #3 – TBD

FYI…I think I’m going to start moving away from milk.  I love milk, don’t get me wrong.  However, it makes me sleepy.  I’m looking to switch to almond milk instead and working on finding other calcium sources (green veggies, almonds, and supplementation).  When I make the move I’ll start documenting it.  I  do plan on still using cheese and yogurt since I do these in such small amounts.

P90X Round 2 Day 4 – Yoga X and P90X Day 5 – Legs And Back, Ab Ripper X

July 11th, 2009

Catching up a bit here about P90X.

Day 4 was Yoga X.  Here’s my warning about Yoga X:  If you did not get enough sleep, you very well may fall asleep during the last part.  I was so stretched and tired from the billions of vinyasas you do that I was relaxed and yawning up until Yoga Belly 7.

Day 5 was Legs and Back and Ab Ripper X (done today).  I learned that I was not taking in enough calories as I bonked heavily a bit more than halfway through.  I stopped, put a scoop of gatorade into my water and picked back.

Cutting my writing today short due to the time and the fact that I’m exhausted.  Tomorrow instead of Kenpo X I will do Cardio X, as I get more of a calorie burn with it.

P90X Days 40 and 41 – Legs and Back and Kenpo X

April 28th, 2009

Still trying to catch up on blogging after a busy weekend, but P90X Day 40 was Legs and Back and Ab Ripper X.  Knowing I had a busy weekend I pushed hard anyways.  My left knee has been giving me a few issues, mainly in inflamation.  It got a good workout but did not cause any major issues.

Day 41 was Kenpo X.  I have always had issues getting my heart rate into a good cardio zone for this routine, but I took some advice from a relative who also does P90X and it paid off.  My heart rate stayed up in the upper 150′s and into the 160′s, which is in the 80% range.  It was a great but tiring workout.

Nothing much else to write about these days.
